Medway Braves

Bears

Hi There soccer fans and welcome to your weekly soccer round up for the North Romford Bears.

This week the Bears kicked off their soccer season in fine form, going one and zero on the road with a 1 to 3 win at the Medway Braves.

The points are shared at the top of the player points leauge as Tony Sutton, Stuart Knapman and John Knapman all picked up 3 points for hitting the back of the net. With one point for each of his assists (the last of which is still under review) Kevin Neville joins all three to make it a four way tie in first place.

With a solid rear guard the Bears defence look sure to gain points in the coming weeks as they can pick up three points each for a shutout.

The only boo boo of the day went to Danny Glynn, he picked up a two point penalty for his yellow card offense. Some fans said that his full frontal body check could have seen him pick up a 5 point red card penalty, but the umpire called it a yellow.

Its sure to be a tight one this season, join me next week for another round up!

Manhattan Redsox

Hey sports fans!
Get set, cos here comes another action packed soccer update! Sorry its late but my BA flight to London Europe was cancelled which put me back a day, man your air-planes really suck!

Well with Eastern Conference C Champions looking to prove their worth against the Bears, I could hardly wait for game time. But no sooner had the buzzer sounded Romford found themselves one score to zero down. Red Sox front man put one up to test the Bears goal tender, who got his paper back marked F.

The Bears D-fence (which includes the Mid-field and front men) sat and watched like the Lincoln memorial as Manhattan pitched a cross field ball deep into left field which was converted to make the score zero and two as we headed for the bottom of the first.

As overtime ticked close the Bears hit right back with a similar play. Crane threw a deep cross field pass which Sutton fumbled but then intercepted, and as the ball broke Knappy Jnr. smashed it home for the three.

The half time show was pretty lame, I mean you guys don’t even get mascots or cheerleaders – come on man you gotta be shitting me!

The second period was a bit of a freeway for the Bears as they took control of the game. The D-fence was strong which allowed the Mid-field to gain yards and help the Of-fence. The Bears were given the chance to tie the game with a special play. Special play kicker Big Kev put one into the zone and Stu Mac was way back to jump and jam the head shot! Three points to old Macky. The Bears were in the mood and a reverse pass down field from Hollamby found striker Sutton who put up a bomb and landed the three point score!

So the Bears were all set to go two and zero in championship games, when Red Sox nailed a special play of their own. The kicker put the ball up up over and into the Romford goal to tie the game at 3. Man that guy was lucky!

Last gasp efforts to make the steal could only see the Bears hit the rim of the goal so both teams got a share of the points.

Just one sin bin this week, Stu Crane used a curse word to talk to the umpire and picked up a –2.

The guys picking up Stat Points though were; Sutton who gets 4, that’s 3 for a goal and 1 for an assist. Knappy jnr. and Stu Mac both get 3 for a goal. Big Kev P and Nick both get 1 for their assists!

Thanx for joining me catch ya next week when the Bears go to the Steelers!
Sidarie Steelers

Bears

Hey Sports fans.

Well the head coach of the Bears had some stiff decisions to make in week three as they travelled to the Steelers who were up among the high ranked teams in the league.

It was a great match up and once again the Bears found it hard coming out of the locker rooms and fell one behind early on. But in reply John 'the hamstring' Knapman did not let the ball go dead and a long looper of a D-fence clearance fell into the net as the goal tender rocked the frame of his goal. The game was tied at one.

Then it became clear who Romford were using as their go to guy’s. The two Kev’s in the middle of the field put up one heck of a show rushing, passing and receiving. Kev N dug it out of the pocket and found Kev P who hit the long drive that went off the rim and in! The Steelers were able to tie the game at two, but Kev N hit back with a long drive of his own. Crickmay got the assist on that one AND TIME OUT here, cos I got a tell ya, Kev N and Kev P, you guy’s can really cream that ball.

Just minutes later Kev P found Sutton open and nailed the pass which Sutton had no problem converting to put Bears up by two. Sutton then picked up an assist as his cross-field ball was converted by the Steelers own D-fence to make this one a three score game.

Steelers produced a good play of their own deep in the game but it was not enough to stop the Bears going two and zero on the road.

Good job guy’s, way to hustle!
Bears

Altern Towers

Hi there sports fans and welcome once more to a soccer round up.

This week the Bears Of-fence really showed how to put the muscle on a team as they ran out 7 to 3 winners in a table topping clash with the Towers!

The ball was set rolling when Nappy hit a through pass, which found Sutton who stroked home from the 12-yard line.

They both had a part in the second goal play too, Nappy tossed in from out of bounds and Sutton hit the reverse pass to Old Macky who rolled the ball in for a two nothing lead going into the half.

In the second period the Bears were sleeping for a moment as the game went to 2 and 1, but they were soon up by two again as Kev P hit a special play off the goal tender and Sutton was there with the left foot slam!

So the Bears started to turn up the heat and Stu Mac was again in the action to lay off for Nappy who turned the ball home for the 4th Bears score.

A slight glimpse of a fight back (as the score went to 4-2) was soon snuffed out as Kev Moss released Sutton who pulled off a nut meg on the run before rolling in past the goal tender for the 3 goal hat-trick score and Romford’s 5th.

It was party time, so cue the play of the week. Kev P outside of the boot to Sutton. Sutton, airborne, punched it into Kev Nev. Kev Nev takes one touch, then rolls it to Nappy who made the first time slam to make it SIX and two.

With the Towers just not giving up the score went to 6 and 3 but the Bears QB told the crowd to look out for another scoring play. Just as he said the words Danny Glynn hit the through pass that found Sutton who nailed the lob shot to end the scoring.

There was some good running from the brothers Crane but the solid rear guard of Jones, Crickmay and Hollamby still could not find a shut out.

So the Bears take this one 7 to 3 and these guy’s have hit a bit of a roll.

Catch ya next week!

Bears

Bee Buba Booner the Bears are 3 and O on the road!!! It was not as easy as the Bears fans thought though as they all turned up expecting to lose count of the score .

The pre-game locker room had a fit Kev P chomping at the bit to play but coach Mark P had his line up picked and made the switch replacing Kev with Dal Barnett .

Then came game time! The Bears in an unfamiliar red and white road uniform had a storming first period as they made chance after chance from there deep passing plays.

It was from one of these passing plays that the Bears were able to take the lead. Kev Nev who pre game had a spot of bother dug one out of the centre pocket to find Sutton in the zone ahead of a sleeping D-fence . Sutton rolled home and the Bears were up by one! With another win on the road on its way the Bears pulled out some crowd-pleasing stuff. Kev Nev made a backward lobster flip at the ball and Stu Knapp found nothing but air and laughs with his swoop at the ball in the red zone. Can you believe that guy even tried to get a flag on that play for a penalty shot?

Soon after the Bears made the same play for their second score of the game. Big Col sent one downtown that found Sutton who found the net for another score! That guy is in explosive form in the red zone that’s five games straight. Just before the half time show Spice boy saw his chance to become unpopular once more. First he took a blow to the face from his own team then he made a boo-boo by performing an illegal punt in front of the umpire.

The Bears second half display was far from all American standard, but hard work from Stu Mac and Mossy out in left field saw the Bears produce some nice plays. Crickmay in at right side D-fence half back made a wonder tackle and a circus of chances hit the rim and goal tender at the Bears goal line. Romford did hang on to this one but could not make that first shut out, Nick chose to dive in against the wish of Jones and we were back to a one score game. That goal was then the topic of conversation after the game as shirts were thrown and dummy’s spat .

Gidea Park Packers

(Cup)

Romford strolled out of the locker room and straight into a one zip lead as the Gidea Park Packers came to town. Kev P found space in the pocket and he nailed the up field pass to Nappy who made the reception for an early score.

Even though the score scoreboard said otherwise Bears were not even in this one and soon found that they were down by one as the Packers put on the pressure.

Bears sent Kev P on a running play and he forced his way into the red zone before Nappy took over the football. A short pass at inside field found Sutton sliding in on home to make it a tie game.

Bears could not hold out until the half time and slipped back by one just before the buzzer sounded. The second period started just as the first finished for Bears as they let in another score and went down by two. It soon got worse though as the Packers made this a THREE SCORE GAME going up 5 to 2.

The Bears only had about 15 left on the clock as Kev Nev made a rush on the Packers D-fence and got sacked in the red zone for a penalty play. Nappy made the kick and brought the Bears within two, and all of a sudden the impossible looked like it might happen.

As the Bears confidence started to snowball Kev Nev picked out a lob pass to Nappy who himself picked out a lob pass to hit his third score of the game and make this a one score game.

The game clock was down to one and a half minutes and Bears had an out of bounds kick to take.
Nappy took this one short to Sutton who drove the ball into the red zone for Kev P to make a head shot home and take this one to overtime.

Big Col picked up a boo boo as he celebrated by cursing at a Packers player. Kev P who made a personal foul on the Packers rushing back, nearly breaking the guy in two soon joined him.

The Packers seemed to be totally deflated as we went into overtime and Nappy was on the end of a Stu Crane long pass to put the final nail in their coffin. He jammed home from a tight angle to grab his fourth and the game ball!

So the Bears take this one in overtime and stay on course for the double championship ring!

SHUT OUT!

Yes sports fans its finally happened the Bears D-Fence played one hell of a game out there and racked up their first shut out of what looks to be an amazing season.

The Bears saw off the Bucks with ease in this four score game, and it never really looked in doubt. After a strong start Nappy found space wide right and sent one into the red zone for Stu Mac to make the jam.

As the game went into the second period the Bears stepped up the play and proved that you don't go five and 0 with one tie on just luck. A neat passing play found Nappy again in the red zone and this time his pass found Glynno who made it a two score game.

Nappy then made a score of his own with a nice finish and the assist is being given to Big Colin (with a possible video referee decision to be made).

The scoring was finished by Kev Nev who sent home a headed dive shot after a nice pass from Sutton. But the story of the day was the massive points haul from the D-Fence. Way to hustle guys.

NCY Giants

 v

Bears

Hi sports fans, its all over!
In the wind the Bears unbeaten run was blown away.

Bears were without Nappy and Sutton who both had hamstring hits and after 5 mins had to see in form Nappy limp off.

Even with out three of their forwards Romford still took the lead, Kev Nev made a good yard run and cross for Dal Barnett to make the score. Can anyone stop these guys from scoring?

Bears got to the half time buzzer with a tie game and should have had this one in the bag.
BUT the NYC Giants just pounded their way through the Bears D-fence to a 3-1 win and that's all she wrote!

Bears

v

Lennards Rams

Well at the Half Time show this game was knotted up at zero and the Bears looked like they had the running of Lennard's Rams. But a different Bears team came out to play the second half and soon went down by two.

It was only then that they started to get things done, and they pulled out a great play when Dan Glynn threw a deep pass to the head of Kev P who made it a one score game with a lob shot.

From there the Bears had chances to tie this one up before a final ten minutes that I ain't even gonna talk about.

So 5-1 at the buzzer and the Bears take a poor run in to next weeks big cup tie with the Towers.

Altern Towers

The Bears cup run is over!

Bears slip to a three game losing streak now as they went down 2 to 3 to the Towers.

Bears went one zip down early in this one but hit right back with a Dan Glynn run winning a free penalty shot. Glynno made the score from the 12 yard line and it was knotted up at the half.

Bears came out strong and produced a Kev P through pass to Nappy who slammed in for the score. It was a nice finish from the goal getter who picks up his hot streak after a week off.

Bears defense could not hold out in this one though and the Towers were able to make this one a tie game as the clock ran down.

Bears seemed to have the lions share of play though and made enough plays to win this one in the 90. Kev Nev and Kev P were close with plays from deep, as was Sutton when he put one over from inside the red zone. It was his chance to turn into a cup hero in the last minute, but not today.

So we went into overtime and for all their effort the Bears could not find the score they needed, they went down 3 to 2 in this one and the cup run is over.

To many team errors and not enough ball in the offensive pressure zone could be to blame?

Bears

Hey Sports Fans! The Bears are back !

A big high five to the makeshift offensive duo in game 10 of the season (and how offensive was the big guy on Saturday night?)

Nappy triple scored against the Lakers with some intricate play in the red zone, but he could have scored a double treble as he rounded the Lakers goal tender on numerous occasions.

The Bears took an early two-zip lead through Nappy and Big KP as they looked to end their four game losing streak. The Lakers had other ideas and soon struck back after yet more sloppy defensive plays. When will those guys ever learn?

Glynno hit a trick-score goal when the Lakers tender fumbled the play and collided with the goal upright to make it 1 to 3 for the Bears

The Lakers had a penalty field goal attempt in each half after two dubious umpiring decisions, and Kev Moss was lucky not to be red flagged. Jonah, tending the Bears goal, earned himself two bonus points for keeping out the second attempt.

Stevie Walters finally got his first score for the bears, and let’s face it sports fans, it’s about time cos he’s no rookie!

KP scored the goal of the game with a left foot lob shot that sailed in from good yardage

As well as his goals, Nappy goes to the top of this years MVP table with two assists as well…..this guy is really on fire !

I have no idea where the other assists came from this game guys, because your English weather is so goddamn bad that my notes were washed away in the second period. I'll let you guys wrestle with those!

See you at the Bearpit next week for the return game with those Braves.

Medway Braves

Well this one was as good as over when one of the conferences worst teams turned up to play at one of the conferences best teams, with only nine field members.

The Bears still had to get a job done though and boy did they do that. They went at this one with a three man offence and gave the Braves no chance from the kick off.
Up by 1 after only 5, the Bears put on the strangle hold and went up by seven within the half hour.
Then Alf Garnet said those words "clean sheet" (which in yank means shutout) and sure enough a mix up saw the Braves make a score.
Bears did hit right back and were up by 8 to 1 at the half. The second half was much the same and Bears ran out 12 to 2 winners, with some BIG let off's at the back.

Kev P was in the zone as he hit four in the first half. Two came direct from Sutton corners and the other two came via the boot of Nappy. One was a deep cross that the big guy made with a head shot and the other was just rolled past the goaltender. (no need for the topless celebration though Kev, its a family park).

Although Nappy was given one score by the Braves defence, he also found the zone to hit a four score day. Three of these were put on by Kev P one of which was a flowing move through the team with a nice cool finish.

Sutton was the third offensive Bears player on the day, and he also made a four score day. Kev P once again put one up as did Hollamby, Colin and Kev Moss (i think) all leaving Sutton to finish from in the red zone.

Many chances were missed by the Bears as they tried to share the scores around (lets leave it at that Spice).

HELLO! HELLO! ITS GOOD TO BE BACK! ITS GOOD TO BE BACK!

What a start to the new year from the Bears! They went boom, boom, bang, bang and up by 4 with under an hour on the game clock.

Nappy fell straight back into the zone after his winter break as the Spice boy made  a pass that gave him a one to one with the Astra goaltender.

Bears never looked in total control of this one though and the DeFence had to be on their game to keep the Vauxhalls at bay....The big difference in these two teams was that the Bears knew how to make a score!

The second came after a low free shot was not sent clear by Astra and Sutton smashed in a shot, the goaltender made a fumble and Dan Glynn was there to send her home!

Sutton then made a score of his own. After some nice passing from the Bears Nappy sent a by-pass through Spice boy to Sutton who hit a arrow shot to the top corner.

The half time show did nothing to slow up the Bears offence and after the restart they won a corner shot from a Moss drive. Sutton smashed the corner shot to Stu Mac who sent a power head drive off the bar, and Nappy made it a four score game.

The Bears looked like getting a shut out even when Astra won a penalty free shot. Jones went the right way and made the shut out!

Astra then saw the game clock tick low and went forward in numbers. They did break the shutout but could not do enough to take this one from the Bears.

Gidea Park Packers

Well the Packers were sent packing this week by the Bears who once more put up one heck of a fight to come out of this weeks schedule on top of the divisional ranking.
Things got off to a good start when Nappy and Sutton made a link up play in the Packers red zone and Nappy made the jam from range.
The Bears did not have to wait too long before they went up by two. Crane hit a long pass out of the deep pocket and he found Nappy (via some bad d-fence) who made the lay up past the goal tender.
Bears got to the half time point with the two zip lead but came out sleeping and lost the chance of a shut out after a deep cross Packers play went in for a one score game.
This gave the Bears the kick start they needed and not too much game time ticked off before Nappy, this time from a Dal B through pass, hit home his third score of the game.
It would be hard to see past Nappy for the MVP in this one but Goal Tender Jones did make some great shutouts!
So it was Bears at 3 to 1 in the end and thats all she wrote!

Bears

Well the Bears could not have gotten off to a better start in this back to back match up with the Packers.

Sutton got the ball back from a one two with Spice and made the centre pass, the ball was put in to the path of Kev P by Dan Glynn and boom! in went the Bears 50th goal of the season. Bears went up by one!

After that Romford sat back and waited for the goals to fly in, after Nappy had a rule out it turned in to a long wait.

Packers were in the zone today and soon had sucsess in the red zone as they crashed their way into a 3 to 1 lead.

This gave the Bears a kick start and Nappy put them to with in one after he touched home a long through pass from Dan Glynn.

Packers defence were rocked and soon after fumbled a deep pass from Jones. Sutton made the pick up and put it past the goaltender to make it a tie game.

Bears then had enough play in the red zone to win this one but could not make any more scores.
The Packers stayed strong and stole this one at the death with a late score.

4 to 3 the Packers win.

Bears

Bears got off to a flying start this week as Sutton made a lay back from to red zone for Spice to smash into the net. BUT there was a flag on the play before Spice hit the ball and play was brought back for a foul on Sutton, free shot Bears.

Dan Glynn stepped up and jammed it into the top corner putting the Bears up by one.

Bears second score came straight from the front line. Nappy made a deep pass from wide and Sutton found himself with all the time in the world to roll the ball home.

At half time it was a tie game at 2, but Bears went down by one soon after.

Then they hit straight back with a long pass from Brown  that found Sutton once again in space, this time he hit a chip shot over the goaltender to knot the game up.

Bears then pushed on for the kill and Nappy was really getting it done out from wide, he put over a long one and old Macky made the head home. The veteran showed just how its done with his head shot.

To finish off this one Bears front two linked up again, this time it was Sutton who had a long range volley shot at the goaltender and Nappy was there to roll home the 5th.

Bears

Well the bears were up against it from the start with most of their star players being unable to take the field.

A late replacement joined the play after 10 minutes but the bears were soon 3 zip down as a heavy season started to take it's toll. Veteran linebacker Jonny Crickmay left the field early after a slide tackle caused an injury, and at the half, things looked bleak in the romford camp.

At the break, a bold tactical move by the bears owner saw their goal tender playing in midfield, and KevP taking over in goal zone. The makeshift coal tender still managed to chalk up an assist as his accurate punts to Nappy eventually set up the score, allowing Nappy to easily take the MVP for the season.

Kev Moss opened his goal account to make him the highest point scoring outfield defensive player.

Bears lose out by a 4 to 2 score to end their season 10-zip-8.
